PWCC Certified - Eye Appeal Rating: Top 30%
Incredibly rare offering! Presented here is a card so scarce that it's often forgotten about when talking about all-time great pre-war productions. For a major release, the supply of E135 Collins-McCarthy trading cards is painfully inadequate to meet demand. This West Coast, 200 card set possesses black and white images of then current players with a posed player image surrounded by a dark pinstripe. The same images are used on the Boston Store, Weil Baking and Standard Biscuits sets as well. We find the Collins-McCarthy set particularly fascinating as the reverse used the title 'Baseball's Hall of Fame' around 20 years before the inaugural class was chosen for Cooperstown. The set is anchored by established greats such as Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Honus Wagner, Rogers Hornsby, Babe Ruth and six of the eight Black Sox players, none more desired than card #82 Shoeless Joe Jackson. The offered PSA 4 is a beauty, easily representing one of the finest copies in the market and a VGEX copy which boasts fantastic overall eye appeal for the grade. Well aligned with only a modest left to right shift present. Beautifully preserved edges with cardstock void of wrinkles. Perhaps what's most impressive about this fine-art equivalent are the surfaces; absent of typical toning with brilliant print and clarity. The cleanliness of this 100+ year old card really boggles the mind. Uniform corner wear is really all that keeps this example at the PSA 4 level. There are only a handful of these recorded on the PSA census, making it one of Shoeless Joe's rarest trading cards and investment piece with endless potential. We're elated to offer this to the investment community free of any reserve or restriction. Comes with our highest recommendation. Please see the video highlight for more details on this offering.
