PWCC Certified - Eye Appeal Rating: Top 30%
Perhaps the sharpest and cleanest T206 Christy Mathewson portrait we've had the pleasure of brokering in our long tenure! The offered specimen lies within an incredibly beautiful SGC 7 NRMT holder which puts it atop the list of finest in existence. Expertly preserved with almost zero signs of circulation present. The surfaces are the best we've seen with an overall cleanliness never seen on the issue, free of typical product toning. The yellow/orange background really pops, the clarity is crystal clear and the print is phenomenal. The card possesses NM-MT+ or better card stock with crisp edges around and the top two corners being virtually untouched. Light touches to the bottom two corners and a subtle centering shift are all that keep from grading higher. In 1936, Mathewson joined Ruth, Wagner, Cobb and Johnson as the first class of baseball hall of famers; a distinction well earned with a list of accomplishments which boggles the mind. All told, this is a truly spectacular fine-art equivalent which is void of nearly all 'flaws'. Conservatively ranks in the top 30% of our quality spectrum and is only deserving of the finest pre-war portfolio. One of over 14,000 cards, lots and sets up for bid in our 2nd Auction of 2020.
